Brocade fabrics, Jaspe / Ikat, Lienzos
These fine weavings are unique pieces, elaborately made by hand, from the different regions of Guatemala. The ancient techniques of this craft originate from ancient times and have been passed down to the descendants of the Maya to this day. The ancient knowledge, the wisdom and stories it hides still live on today in the production of textiles and the associated crafts such as spinning, dyeing, weaving and weaving in Guatemala and parts of Mexico.
On my travels to indigenous groups, I collect individual pieces made from brocade and jasper techniques. Fine scarves and shawls are made locally by women's cooperatives and so I can ensure fair trade.
